Reference Company

Consorcio de Aguas Bilbao Bizkaia (Bilbao Bizkaia Water Board) is a public company with more than 50 years of history, in charge of management of the primary network, both for drinking water supply as well as waste water processing for approximately one million inhabitants of Bizkaia. It is formed by 81 municipalities, as well as by the Regional Government of Bizkaia and the Basque Government. It manages 26 drinking water plants, 32 waste water processing facilities and more than 4,000 kilometres of networks, with a staff of 373 people.

Its objective is to serve society by contributing to community wellbeing, and to do so innovation and quality are the connecting theme of its activity, along with respect and care for the environment. With that objective in sight, it decisively bids on open innovation and, increasingly frequently, participates in challenges in which it makes needs that may be covered by external agents known. A clear example of the passion for open innovation is that its supreme deciding body on innovation, the Innovation Committee, includes members from other companies. A saying that would reflect our attitude regarding innovation is: “Can you help us to innovate? We will provide the water.”
