Challenge

The challenge set by Athletic Club is entitled “How can new technologies help me assess susceptibility and prevent the risk of injury, by means of customised and customisable parameters of the risk factors that can be modified in the context of managing an injury to one of the club’s players?”

This challenge responds to the needs described below:

The management of sports injuries and their impact on the availability of the team is the main focus of work that is carried out in the medical service of a professional football club. From this point of view, bearing in mind that the central objective of Athletic Club is to obtain the maximum sports performance from its first teams (male and female) and the comprehensive and personalised training of players to obtain their best professional and personal performance, we could identify the following central goal: to obtain the maximum availability of these sportsmen and women.

To achieve this, the aim is to focus on two aspects: minimising the risk of injury as far as possible and effectively (safely) optimising or managing recovery times from injuries. Either of the two aspects mentioned above requires a comprehensive knowledge of and approach to the different risk factors involved in each type of injury, so as be able to propose specific, personalised interventions from both a preventive and therapeutic point of view.
